Vetakort  Injectable Solution contains sodium ester of dexamethasone; this active substance is the fluoro-methyl derivative of prednisol, a strong glucocorticoid with minimal mineralocorticoid activity. Dexamethasone has 10-20 times more anti-inflammatory effect than prednisone.

Dexamethasone, like other corticosteroids, reduces or interferes with the response of tissues in inflammatory reactions. Inflammatory symptoms such as macrophages and leukocytes are prevented from accumulating in the inflamed zone, thereby preventing inflammatory symptoms.

Dexamethasone is rapidly absorbed following intramuscular injection and reaches the highest plasma level in a short time (eg, 30 minutes in dogs). It hydrolyzes to the quick-responding alcohol form, which maintains its effect for about 48 hours. It is quickly excreted with urine and feces.

Vetakort has a very strong anti-inflammatory, antitoxic, antiexudative and antiallergic effect. It provides very fast recovery when used in fire situations. Vetakort creates a remarkable catabolic effect and accelerates gluconeogenesis.
